Henry Bailey (1859–1948)

Brief reference was recently made of the death of Mr. Henry Bailey, who had been almost a life-long resident of Grenfell. The late Mr. Bailey, who was 89 years of age, was born at Young, and came to Grenfell at an early age, and in 1880 married Miss Sarah Phillips, who predeceased him in 1942. Surviving members of the family are: Messrs. Sidney Bailey (Grenfell), Walpole (Haberfield), Cecil (Victoria), Mrs. Merritt (Sydney), Mrs. James Downey (Grenfell). Two sons predeceased him. For many years deceased farmed on the Quandong, and afterwards came into town to live. In his young days he was a noted athlete, and won many foot races, his only superior in Grenfell at that time being a local named Samuels.
