Daniel Lucas (1833–1891)

Death has just taken another resident from our midst in the person of Mr Daniel Lucas, of Kelton farm, Cresey road, who passed away this morning between 11 and 12 o'clock, in his 58th year. The sad event was not at all unexpected, as the health of the deceased had been gradually failing for a considerable time past, and when a few weeks back he was obliged to take to his bed it soon became apparent that the end was fast approaching. Mr Lucas, who was a native of Longford and unmarried, resided with his brother Edward on the old family estate named, which was purchased by them a few years ago, and on which they had been fairly successful, being invariably the first in each season to commence harvesting in our district. Deceased was honest and upright in his dealings, and had the courage to express his opinion on any matter brought under his notice. He was a member of the local rabbit board as long as it was in existence, and a member of our road trust up to the time of his death, which now causes a vacancy.
