Marion McLean Solomon (1882–1935)

The funeral of the late Mrs. Marion McLean Solomon, beloved wife of Mr. S. M. Solomon, of Balkuling, took place in the Church of England Cemetery, Karrakatta, last Thursday afternoon, the Ven. Archdeacon C. L. Riley officiating at the grave side. The late Mrs. Solomon, who was a daughter of the late Mr. Edward Hamersley, of York, was born at Wilberforce, the Hamersley homestead just outside York, some 53 years ago. She leaves a family of a son and daughter. The chief mourners were Messrs. Samuel M. Solomon (widower), Lyle Solomon (son), Edward, Percy, Forrest, Auburn and Frank Hamersley (brothers), Vernon Hamersley, M.L.C., and Astley Hamersley, Major V. L. C. Manning, Mr. H. E. B. Gull and Mrs. A. Butt (cousins), Messrs. J. Forrest Hamersley, Leslie and William Hamersley, M. E. Solomon and J. Dunlop (nephews) and W. E. B. and Morris Solomon (brothers-in-law). The pall bearers were Mr. F. E. Wingrove, Major Manning and Messrs. Richard Noble, J. R. Brooking, F. W. Bateson and S. G. Royce. Among the many present were Messrs. E. W. Cotton. A. G. Groat. J. L. Manning, Gordon Campbell, C. Cook, W. H. Tickell and B. Hamersley, Mrs. Stokes and many others. A large number of beautiful wreaths and floral tributes were placed on the graveside and widespread expressions of sympathy have been received by the bereaved family and relatives. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Donald J. Chipper and Son.
