Andrew Etwell Hamersley (1877–1924)

A burning fatality has just been discovered, the victim being Andrew Etwell Hamersley, son of the late Edward Hamersley, of Wilberforce, York. The deceased lived alone in a small two-roomed cottage about two miles from Hamersley siding. It is assumed that while he was sitting at his table reading his clothes caught on fire. His cousin, Forrest Hamersley, called at his residence on Sunday, and was horrified to find his charred remains in the corner of the adjoining room. Several of the boards on the floor and also the table were burnt. An inquest will be held in York. The deceased was about 45 years of age, and a single man. Great sympathy is felt for the Hamersley family, who have been life-long residents in the York district. The funeral will take place tomorrow, at Northam, where the deceased's parents are buried.
