from Freeman's Journal
Miss Parkes, sister of Sir Henry Parkes, died at Faulconbridge last Saturday. The deceased lady, Maria Parkes, came to the colony in 1873, partly on account of her health. When Sir Henry made Faulconbridge he built a cottage for her, and has rented the place for her ever since the estate has been out of his hands, so that she should not be in any way disturbed. Miss Parkes had been in very feeble health for the last two or three years, and had been confined to her bed during the last five weeks. She had an old servant living with her almost as feeble and infirm as herself, as she had been in the service of Miss Parkes for 53 years. Dr. Maurice O'Connor, who had been attending the deceased, left Sydney for Faulconbridge last Friday night. The deceased lady was in 81st year.
