Wilfred Alexander Barton (1880–1953)

The late Mr. Wilfred A. Barton, barrister, who died in England recently, was the second son of Sir Edmund Barton, first Prime Minister of Australia. He was first New South Wales Rhodes Scholar (1904) and did not return after being admitted to the Bar. The deceased gentleman was a brilliant exponent of Rugby Union, representing Australia as centre-forward against New Zealand in 1903. One brother was Judge Barton, a second brother being Dr. Oswald Barton, of Scone. A sister ("Muffie") is the wife of Sir David Maugham, Q.C., who played football for the King's School, which in one season had two students and a master representing their State.
