Hortense Alexia Tardent (1857–1932)

Mrs Hortense Tardent, relict of the late Mr. Henry A. Tardent, died suddenly at the residence of her son on October 1st, 1932. The deceased lady, a Queensland pioneer of 45 years' standing, was born in Europe in 1857, and married at the age of 19. Of 12 children of the family, eight attained adult age. One of these, Ted Tardent, of the 42nd Battalion, was killed in action in Belgium. Mrs. Tardent, in turn, resided at Roma, Toowoomba, and Wynnum. She was on a visit to Rockhampton at the time of her death. The surviving members of the family are Paul Tardent (Rockhampton), Emil A. Tardent (Wynuum), Jules L. Tardent (Atherton) and Mesdames P. A. Rochat (Northgate), C. J. Stephensen (South Brisbane). J. B. S. Shrapnel (Oakey), and W. R. Barritt. (Booval).
