There was general regret throughout the entire district on Monday of last week when it became known that one of our most popular farmers, Geoffrey Moore Rouse (42), had passed away whilst being conveyed to Prince Alfred Hospital. The deceased had been to Sydney a week before and whilst returning by car complained of a sore throat. After bringing his wife home from Dubbo, where she had recently undergone a serious operation, he sought medical attention both in Dubbo and Gilgandra, but was advised that it was nothing serious. Returning home he did not improve and a further visit to Dubbo was made when an x-ray was taken. After this he collapsed at the District Hospital and had to be given oxygen, but improved. His medical adviser did not consider his position serious, but suggested he could be taken to Sydney, although there was no immediate danger. He was conveyed by the Dubbo Ambulance, accompanied by a sister from the hospital and his brother, Neil. However, on the way down he was in severe pain from the throat affection and died within a few minutes of reaching Prince Alfred Hospital. Death was stated to be due to a germ infection in the throat. The deceased, who was born at Mudgee, was the son of the late G. M. Rouse of that district, and a descendant of one of the earliest settlers in that part. He came to Gilgandra in 1926 when he purchased "Yarrandale," in the Bear bong district, from the late W. E. Bailey. In 1928 he married a daughter of the late G. A. Semmler, of "Kiowa," and there are three children of the marriage— Bruce (15), Jill and Valerie. The remains were interred in the Gilgandra cemetery on Wednesday, Bro. Allan officiating. Deceased is a brother of Messrs. N. and H. Rouse, of "Wallumburrawang," Gilgandra.
