The death occurred in Melbourne recently of Mr. Hurtle Augustus Pegler, part owner of Moorna, Nulla, and Mallee Cliffs stations. He was aged 71 years. He was born on the Murray 30 years before irrigation began and lived his early life on Lake Victoria and other stations. He was a foundation member and vice-president of the Mildura Club under the presidency of Mr. William Chaffey. He became president on Mr. Chaffey's death in 1926. He was also president of the Mildura Golf Club for many years, president of the Wentworth Race Club, chairman of the Mildura Urban Water Trust, practically since its inception, and chairman of the Mildura Winery Co. He has left five daughters and a son. He was a generous patron of racing and apart from many good country performers he owned Ruby, a first-class steeplechaser, and more recently Glentronie, which was placed twice in the Grand National and Onkaparinga Steeplechase. The late Mr. Hurtle Pegler was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Pegler, of Milo station. There are three brothers in the West, Messrs. A. G. Pegler (Denevor Downs, Eulo), H. C. Pegler (Comongin, Quilpie), and C. M. Pegler (stock and station agent. Blackall).
