George Nichols, n.d.

George Nichols, n.d.

In indifferent health for a number of years, and suffering the after effects of being gored by a bull some time ago, Mr. George Richardson Nichols, passed away at his home, Maroochydore, on Thursday (April 24), at the age of 61 years. He was the second son of the late Mr. George Nichols, a pioneer of Petrie Creek. The deceased who was born in the Nambour district, spent part of his childhood in the Pimpama district. He had resided in the Burnett and Lockyer districts. At Helidon he was a member of the school committee and associated with farmer organisations. He returned to the Maroochy district some 17 years ago, and with his sons conducted a dairy at Maroochydore. He engaged in farming for the greater park of his life, and also sawmilling in his younger days. Associated with his brother, the late Mr. A. T. Nichols, who died in Canada some years ago, he had been a lay preacher of the Methodist Church in this district.

The deceased is survived by his widow, four sons, Messrs A. G. D., R. H., C. R. and N. R. Nichols, and three daughters, Mesdames E. Wiseman (Maroochydore), L. Madsen (Manly) and Miss Vera Nichols (Maroochydore).

The funeral moved from the Maroochydore Methodist Church after service to the Nambour Cemetery. The Rev. S. G. Munro officiated at the church and graveside.
