John Thomas Neary (1891–1943)

John Thomas Neary, very well-known in Cairns, having spent practically his whole life in this city died early yesterday morning. Deceased, who was a single man, was born in Herberton 52 years ago and was educated at St Monica’s School, Cairns. He was a son of the late Mr and Mrs. J. Neary, old pioneers of this district. In the boom days of foot running in this city the late Mr. Neary was one of the fastest runners this city produced. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Spowart and Miss Annie Nerry of McLeod street, Cairns, and two brothers, Mr. J. Neary, of the staff of Messrs Cummins and Campbell., and a resident in McLeod, and Mr. C Neary of Edmonton. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from St Monica’s Cathedral and was largely attended. Rev. Father Hunt officiated at the graveside.
