Mrs. Helen Ann Jones, widow of the late Mr. Edward Lloyd Jones, died at Strathfield on Saturday, aged 85 years. Mrs. Lloyd Jones had a wide circle of friends, and was associated with many charitable movements, chiefly the New South Wales Benevolent Society, and the Female Mission Home. She was a daughter of Mr. Richard Jones, who came to New South Wales in 1838, and, after establishing the Maitand 'Mercury,' entered Parliament, being Colonial Treasurer in one of Sir Henry Parkes' Ministeries. He was also chairman of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney. In 1868 Miss Jones was married to Mr. Edward Lloyd Jones, third son of Mr. David Jones, one of the founders of the Pitt street Congregational Church and of David Jones Ltd. Mrs. Lloyd Jones was a great supporter of the Congregational Church, especially Trinity Church, Strathfield, with which she was associated for about 40 years. She is survived by four children — Mrs. Arthur Ross Nott, of Strathfield; Mr Edward Lloyd Jones, of Tarcutta, Mr. Charles Lloyd Jones (chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Commission), and Mr. Eric David Lloyd Jones. The remains were cremated privately at Rookwood on Sunday, after services at the home and crematorium, conducted by the Rev. S. Grimwade.
