Mr Alsage Benjamin Collett, who was known to many of the older residents of Singleton, died in the Dangar Cottage Hospital this morning. The deceased, who was 76 years of age, visited Singleton some weeks ago, when a number of old friends were pleased to renew acquaintance with him. He resided at Gosford, and returned to Singleton about a week ago to enter hospital immediately. The late Mr Collett was born in Nundle, being the only son of the late Mr and Mrs C. D. Collett, of Nundle. After leaving school he was employed in the head office of the Government Savings Bank at Sydney for a number of years, and subsequently spent some years in the Scone branch of the bank. He retired from the service of the bank some 10 or 12 years ago, and had since resided at Gosford. The late Mr Collett was a noted footballer, starring in the position of full-back, and played in a number of matches for Singleton over half a century ago. He is survived by his widow, and there is no family. Deceased was a brother of Miss A. M. Collett, of "Pelerin," Singleton; Mrs A. P. Lambert, of Balgowlah; and the late Mrs G. R. Steede, of Roseville; and was a nephew of the late Mrs C. H. Dight, of "Pelerin.'' The funeral will leave All Saints' Church at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow (Saturday) for the Church of England cemetery, Whittingham.
