The funeral of the late Mr. J. M. [John Macquarie] Antill, J.P. Picton, who died at his residence, 'Jarvisfield,' on Monday last, took place on Wednesday, at Picton. The deceased gentleman was interred in the family vault, on the summit of Vault Hill, overlooking the town, the Rev. D. H. Dillon (Picton) and the Rev. C. J. King (Camden) conducting the funeral service. He leaves a widow, who is at present seriously ill, four sons, and four daughters. Two of his sons, Major J. M. Antill and Lieutenant E. Antill, are at the front in South Africa, and a daughter, Mrs. Lassetter, is on her way to England. The deceased gentleman was widely respected, and by his death another of the links which connected us with the past has gone. He was for some considerable time chief magistrate here, and occupied the bench for about half a century. A large number of beautiful wreaths, including one from the Picton Municipal Council, were sent, and messages of condolences were received from all parts of the colony. Among those present at the funeral were - Mr. W. R. Antill, J.P. (brother), Mr. R. H. Antill, J.P. (son), Colonel Lassetter (son-in-law), Mr. John Kidd, M.L.A., Dr. Ekin (who attended the deceased), the Mayor, (Alderman J. W. McQuiggin), and Alderman F. B. Forster, J.P., C. Dunn, J.P., L.
