Katherine Mary (Kath) Williams (1895–1975)

by Nell Johns

Kath [Katherine Mary] Williams, well-known in all fields of struggle for the working-class but particularly loved and honoured among women, died in Melbourne on April 18.

Kath was an organiser in the Liquor Trades Union in Melbourne in the early fifties, and the first and only Secretary of the then Trades Hall Equal Pay Committee. She was one of three Australian observers at the first and only (to my knowledge) World Conference of Working Women, held from June 14-17, 1956 in Budapest. On her return from the conference she wrote a booklet "Equality Will Be Won."

Kath was a friend and a Comrade, sadly missed when through ill health she retired.

Our sympathy to her family and friends — all who knew her will remember.
