Laura Ethel Tress (1886–1945)

Mrs Laura Elizabeth Tress, widow of the late Archdeacon Tress, died at her home 'Willow Lodge,' Kempsey, on November 27. She had been ill for some time and had been in Macleay Hospital, which she left on the closure of the private ward. In spite of indisposition she was in high spirit at the beginning of the week until about 9.30 am on the Tuesday, when she collapsed. Death occurred within a few minutes. Mrs Tress was a kind hearted woman and most hospitable. She found happiness in the services of others. A capable organist and member of All Saints' Church choir at Kempsey, Mrs Tress had been a great support to her late husband, for years she had been secretary of the southern archdeaconry of the Women's Auxiliary of the Australian Board of Missions. The youngest of a family of 13, Mrs Tress was born at Belmore River on February 4, 1886. Her parents were Mr and Mrs John Lancaster. Her family moved to East Kempsey. She was married to Archdeacon Tress about 16 years ago.
