Arthur Broughton Tress (1871–1945)

The Ven. Archdeacon A. B. [Arthur Broughton] Tress, aged 75 years, passed away on Wednesday last after a brief illness following a lengthy period of indifferent health. He is survived by his widow and one daughter. He entered the priesthood at Melbourne in 1899, and in 1924 became Archdeacon of the Hastings, Macleay and Clarence. He was appointed Administrator of the Diocese in 1920 and from 1928 to 1939 was Rector at Kempsey. In his earlier years he was Minister at St. Stephen's, Elsternwick and incumbent at Christ Church, Echuca. He then went to St. Stephens, Richmond, as Rector, and for three years was Hon. Chaplain to the Archibishop of Melbourne. The funeral, under conduct of Mr. Jos. T. Walker, took place to East Kempsey Church of England Cemetery on Thursday and was largely attended, friends of long standing coming from many distant centres to pay a last tribute to a man beloved by all who knew him.
