A large circle of friends will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. John Thorn, which took place suddenly at her residence, Wyreema, Hampstead-road, on Sunday, August 25. Mrs. Thorn was in perfect health, enjoyed the theatre on Friday evening, and was dressing about 8 o'clock on Sunday morning, when she became suddenly ill, and died with her daughter Vera's name on her lips. Mrs. Thorn was the widow of Mr. John Thorn, of Ipswich, who was brother of the late Hon. George Thorn, Mrs. George Harris, Mrs. Donald Wallace, and Mrs. Tom Rome. She was a Miss Marsh, and was born in England. She had been about 40 years in Australia. She was devoted to her home life and her family, very proud of her five stalwart sons and two daughters. Major Percy Thorn is on active service; one daughter, Miss Vera Thorn, resided with her mother; the other, Mrs. Clive Statham, is in Sydney. The funeral of the late Mrs. Thorn took place from Wyreema, Highgate Hill, to the Toowong Cemetery. Bishop Le Panu conducted the service at the graveside, and there was a large attendance of old family friends. The chief mourners were Messrs. G. E. S. Thorn, S. A. Thorn, and C. C. Thorn (sons), and Miss Vera Thorn (daughter), who was accompanied by Mrs. Lumley Hill (Bellevue). Major Percy Thorn (son) is on active service, and Mr. Sydney Thorn (another son) is in Townsville, and was unable to reach Brisbane in time.
