Walter George Scott (1824–1908)

On Friday last Mr. Walter George Scott, farmer, of Milroy, Temora-road, and a very old resident, passed away at the great age of 84. The deceased gentleman was many years ago employed on one of the properties between Young and Marengo — we believe, at Calabash. However, when we made his acquaintance he kept a small school at the Nine-mile, Marengo-road, in a pise cottage, where he also resided with his wife and young faintly. We rather think the school was under the old Act, the teacher paid by that Board. Later on Mr. Scott found himself in a position to take up land on the Temora-road, which, with the assistance of a growing family, he improved and converted into a good property called Milroy. For some time past the deceased had been under medical care, suffering from influenza. He so greatly improved that it was thought his health quite re-established. However, on Friday last he was walking about outside for a short time, and, on returning, sat down in a chair, where he peacefully and suddenly expired, the cause of death heart failure. The deceased was a quiet, amiable man and much respected by his neighbours. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon last and was largely attended by surrounding neighbours. The coffin was carried from the homestead to the place of interment on the farm, the deceased expressing a wish to be buried there.
