Mrs. E. Riley (nee Annie Kirk), wife of the Federal member for South Sydney, died at her residence, Rosebank, Bennett-street, Newtown, yesterday. She was 73 years of age. Besides her husband she leaves a family of three sons and three daughters, Mr. J. K. Riley, Mr. E. C. Riley (Federal member for Cook), Mr. Harry Riley, Mesdames Harold McKenzie, Horace Hayman, and Miss Hope E. Riley, ex-Mayoress of Newtown. Mrs Riley passed away on the ninth anniversary of the death of her daughter Ellen, who was the wife of Senator Duncan. Born in County Fermanagh, Ireland, the late Mrs. Riley came to Australia with her husband in the year 1803, the voyage, which was made in a sailing vessel, occupying six months. She took a keen interest in politics, and was a foundation member of the Australian Labour party, and an original member of the women's central organising committee, A.L.P. Her brother, Mr. John Kirk (Newcastle), and sister, Mrs. Susan Bryson (Sydney), survive her. The deceased lady was active in charitable work. The funeral will leave her late residence for the Northern Suburbs Cemetery at 1.45 p.m. to-day.
