Edward Montague-Williams (1855–1923)

Captain E. Montaguo-Wllllams, who was well-known in shipping circles, died at his residence, Edgecliff, on Thursday, at the ago of 68. A native of Dundalf, Ireland, he belonged to a family associated for many years with the Dundalk and Nowra Steam Packet Co., one of whose ships his father, Captain J.D. Williams, commanded for some years, be fore he took over the general management of the company at Liverpool.

Captain Montague-Williams commenced his seafaring life in the Brocklebank Line, in which he attained to the rank of captain. He afterwards joined the Orient-Pacific service, and sailed In its vessels lo Australia for some years. He was afterwards for some time captain of one of the Dundalk and Newry Steam Packet Co.'s steamers, trading betweon Ireland and England.

Coming to Australia more than 20 years ago, Captain Montague-Williams became surveyor of the Sydney Marine Underwriters' and Salvage Association. He retired two yonrs ago. His only son, Lieut. E.E. Montngue-Williams, held a commission in the British Artillery, and was killed during the war. Captain Montngue-Williams is survived by a widow and one daughter.

The funeral took place on Friday at South Head Cemetery. The Rev. Father Wogan conducted services at the house and the graveside. The chief mourners were Mrs. Montague-Williams (widow), Miss Williams (daughter), Mr. A.H. Emanuel (brother-in-law), Mrs. Emanuel, Dr. P.J. Collins, Mr. L.D. Philips, and Mr. A.B. Hughes.
