Anthony Christmas (Chris) Lindsey (1880–1936)

A well known and highly esteemed resident, Mr Anthony Christmas (Chris) Lindsay, died on Thursday, 25th ult., at his residence, 23 Railway place, after, a brief illness. Deceased, who was born locally 56 years ago. was a good all-round cricketer and footballer. For many years he was employed at Newport Workshops as boilermaker, and was an old member of the Excelsior Lodge of Freemasons. His widow and one son are left to mourn their loss. The funeral, largely attended, took place on Friday afternoon; leaving his residence for interment in the local cemetery. Ernest W. Jackson had charge of the funeral arrangements, and Rev. J. H. Raverty held a house service and officiated at the cemetery. Wor. Bro. E. A. Cobbin, W.M. conducted the Masonic burial service.
