The death occurred at Dromana on Wednesday of Mr David Hennessey, aged 88 years, author and journalist, whose novels include The Outlaw, A Tail of Gold, Caves of Shend, A Lost Identity, The Dis-Honourable, Wynnum, and An Australian Bush Track. Born in England, Mr Hennessey came to Australia in his early youth. He was educated for the Ministry and he preached in the Wharf street Congregational Church in Brisbane and the Pitt street Congregational Church in Sydney. He was actively connected with church work in Melbourne, and was the founder of the Church World of which he acted as editor. In Sydney he was the editor for some time of The Australian Field, an agricultural magazine. Although he retired from journalism about 18 years ago, he continued his literary work until shortly before his death which occurred after a brief illness. At present one of his manuscripts is in England awaiting publication. The funeral took place at the Dromana Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Arrangements were made by Messrs Gamble, undertakers of Frankston.
