A private cable received by Dalgety and Co. Limited on 3rd October announced the death in England on 1st October of Mr. Edmund Theodore Doxat, at an advanced age. The deceased gentleman was a prominent figure in the city of London for many years past, and from 1894 to 1913 was chairman of directors of Dalgety and Co. Limited. It was in 1880 that Mr. Doxat joined the firm of Dalgety, Blackwood & Co., assuming the chief management in London in succession to Mr. F. A. Du Croz. When the limited liability company was formed in 1884 Mr. F. G. Dalgety was chairman of the company, with Mr. Doxat and Mr. S. J. Du Croz as managing directors. On the death of Mr. Dalgety in 1894 Mr. Doxat became chairman, in addition to retaining his duties as managing director. During his long connection with Dalgety and Co. Mr. Doxat had the pleasure of seeing the Australian and New Zealand business grow by leaps and bounds. The wool branch especially showed great expansion, and from handling a total of under 50,000 bales at the outset the sales in Australia, New Zealand, and London increased to nearly half a million bales. On 19th May, 1909, a notable gathering assembled at the London offices of the company, when congratulations from Australia and New Zealand were tendered to Mr. Doxat upon the attainment of his 80th birthday, at which time the staffs in London, Australia, and New Zealand presented Mr. Doxat with his portrait in oils.
