Walter Deans (1861–1942)

Mr Walter Deans, one of the oldest residents of Ararat, has died at the age of 81. He was proprietor of the firm Deans and Co, cordial manufacturers, and at one time had large grazing interests in the district. He was a former member of the Ararat Borough Council, and a former president of the athletic club and Ararat Turf Club. Mr Deans was well known in racing circles, and he raced with success at Warrnambool, Hamilton, Ararat, and in Wimmera centres. He is survived by a widow and 3 daughters.
