Frederick Edmund Chalmers (1804–1869)

Our obituary today records the death of two very old colonists, namely, Messrs. John Barrett, and Capt. F. E. Chalmers, of Sayes' Court, Bagdad. Mr. Barrett arrived in this colony in the ship Brixton, many years ago, aud he is, we believe, the last colonist remaining who came by that vessel. He has been in business for a long time in this city, and is father of Hugh Sunderland Barrett, Esq., M.H.A. Captain Chalmers is well-known as an old and influential settler, and has been for many years in the Commission of the Peace. Both gentlemen will be regretted by a wide circle of friends.
