Vivian Larchin Butler (1860–1939)

The death occurred at a private hospital in Melbourne yesterday of Mr. Vivian Larchin Butler, senior member of the firm of Russell Young, Butler and Waugh, Hobart.

Mr. Butler was a native of Hobart. He was a grandson of the late Mr. Gamaliel Butler, who was a solicitor in England, and a son of the late Mr. Richard William Butler, also a solicitor, who practised for many years in Hobart.

Mr. V. L. Butler was educated at Hutchins School, and upon completing his studies, was articled to Messrs. Russell Young and Walker, solicitors. He was admitted to the Bar in 1883, when he proceeded to Melbourne, and entered the offices of Messrs. Blake and Riggall, adding considerably to his experience and knowledge of the law. Returning to Hobart after a year's absence, he entered into a partnership with Mr. J. W. H. Welch. This was continued until 1892, when he went back to Mr. Young's office and became his partner.
