George Coles (1855–1931)

The death took place at his residence, Kew, of Mr. George Coles (70), father of Mr G. J. Coles, founder and chairman of directors of G. J. Coles and Co. Ltd., and of the three other brothers associated with the company.

Mr. Coles was the son of a London merchant who was attracted to Australia by the gold rushes. He was at one time a general storekeeper in Tasmania. Coles' now control the biggest chain stores in Molbourne.

In addition to his four sons Mr. Coles is survived by a widow and three daughters.
