Just as the July issue went to press we received the regrettable news of the death, after a prolonged illness, of Mr. J. H. Withers, who, until a few months ago, owned Brung Brungle Estate, in the Western District of Victoria.
The late Mr. Withers was born in Devonshire, England, in 1869. At the age of seven years he, with his people, came out to Australia, pioneered on the Anabranch in N.S.W., and eventually acquired Brung Brungle, on the Wannon River, in Victoria.
He was engaged in the pastoral industry practically all his life, and as well as Brung Brungle, for some time owned Boxgrove Station, in New South Wales.
In 1894 he married Sophie O., daughter of the late Mr. J. O. Edwards, J.P., of Wentworth, N.S.W.
The deceased was buried in the Brighton Cemetery, Melbourne, on the 7th ult., the pall-bearers being Senator J. F. Guthrie, Drs. Upjohn and Dunbar Hooper, and Messrs. Parker, Deeble, Moodie, Stanley Learmonth, and Tom Robertson.
A widow and grown-up family survive. The two sons recently purchased Tammit Station, in Western Riverina, N.S.W.
