John James (Jack) Williams (1881–1959)

Party members will be grieved to hear of the death in Newcastle on September 14, of Jack Williams (father of the Party organiser of that name), who had spent a lifetime in the working-class struggle for emancipation.

Jack Williams joined the Party more than 33 years ago and was active until he died.

He was active in the World War I anti-conscription campaign, was president of the Borehole Miners' Lodge for seven years, president of the Newcastle section of the A.W.U. for six years, and played an active role in the peace movement and on May Day committees.

Edgar Ross, editor of "Common Cause", who conducted the service at the crematorium, spoke in moving terms of Jack's great participation in the cause of the working class.

The Communist Party extends deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
