Mr. Benjamin Whittaker, who died at his home at Collingwood recently at the great age of 93 years was one of the fine old men of the district. He settled at Collingwood in the early days, and by thrift and industry made a success of his career on the land. There were many difficulties to be overcome in those far-off days, but men of Mr. Whittaker's calibre were equal to all the calls made upon them. Deceased was held in the highest regard by his fellows, and his passing brought sadness to homes all over the district. To members of the bereaved family the sympathy of the whole community is extended. The funeral took place at a private cemetery at Collingwood, Rev. Canon Powel officiating. Messrs. Eastaugh and Carroll carried out the arrangements.
