By the death of Mr. W. H. Wheatley, of Goulburn, New South Wales, which occurred on the 8th August, there has been removed a figure well known to a large section of stockowners in the State.
Mr. Wheatley, who was 62 years of age at the time of his death, was born near Gunning, New South Wales. He was largely identified with the commercial affairs of Goulburn, in which town he lived for very many years, and where he conducted the stock and station agency business, with which his name was so long associated.
A keen, clear headed business man with wide interests, he still found time to assist in many movements of a public and religious character, and he imported into those movements a vast amount of vigorous earnestness which produced good results. As a member of the Council of the Stockowners' Association of New South Wales, he was able to do a large amount of valuable work in the interests of the pastoral and agricultural industries, while his connection with the Stock and Station Agents' Association gave him many opportunities of striving to improve the conditions under which the transit of live stock was conducted.
Mr. Wheatley was a very active member of the Liberal Association, and took a keen interest in Masonic matters.
