William George Whatman (1843–1903)

We regret having to record in this issue the death of Mr. W. G. Whatman, which sad event took place at his late residence near Bowral last Saturday morning. The deceased gentleman, who was for long a sufferer from dropsy, had been under the doctor for some time, but no hopes were held out for his recovery. He had resided at Glenquarry for many years, following the occupation of a farmer, and was a widely known and highly esteemed resident of the district. The last few years of his life were, however, lived in Bowral. The deceased, who was 59 years of age, leaves a widow and a grown-up family to mourn their loss. The interment took place on Sunday last, a large number being present at the graveside, where Mr. J. Cole conducted the funeral service, in the unavoidable absence of the Rev. E. Hargrave. As a mark of the esteem in which the late Mr. Whatman was held many beautiful wreaths were received, besides cards and letters of sympathy. Mr. J. Beavan, of Bowral, was the undertaker.
