There passed away at Preston on August 27, a Labor stalwart in the person of Mrs. M. E. [Mary Ellen] Webb. For many years our late comrade took an active part in Labor Party activities in Northcote. She had an intelligent grasp of the fundamentals of the Labor Movement and was very capable of expounding Labor's principles and policy. With her family, she later moved to Preston, where for a considerable time she carried on the good work. For the past year or two failing health compelled her to relinquish active participation in the work of the Movement, but she evinced a keen interest in its affairs right up to the last. The late Mrs. Webb had a genial and pleasing personality, and was very highly respected by all who knew her. The burial took place at Strathallan Cemetery in the presence of some old comrades, amongst whom was Com. Angus McDonell, who had been associated with our departed comrade in the early years of Tom Mann. Com. McDonell spoke a few words of eulogy for the work of our late comrade during the past 25 years. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to her family and relatives who remain to mourn their loss. Vale, comrade!— R.W.B.
