Ernest W. Waugh (1870–1943)

Mr Ernest W. Waugh, who died at his Applecross home yesterday, was mayor of North Perth for some time before that municipality became absorbed in the greater City of Perth scheme.

For three years afterwards he was a member of the Perth City Council.

Mr Waugh was well known in Perth commercial circles for many years. He was a chartered accountant and directed the financial affairs of a number of concerns, particularly pastoral properties.

He gained active pastoral experience on Murchison stations and became overseer of Boolardy station, then owned by the late Mr Frank Wittenoom.

After engaging in mining activities he returned to Mr Wittenoom to manage his business affairs and to carry on practice as an accountant and auditor.

Mr Waugh was born at Wesley College, Melbourne, in November 1870. His father, Dr James S. Waugh, was principal of that institute.

He leaves three daughters.

His remains will be buried at Karrakatta Cemetery tomorrow morning.
