George Cobham Watson (1823–1879)

Mr. George Cobham Watson, Crown Lands Ranger for the county of Cumberland, died very suddenly at his residence, Ryde, on Tuesday last. The day before his death he discharged the duties of his office apparently in his usual health. At about 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning, when about to rise from his bed, he passed away without a moment's pain or warning. Disease of the heart—which no one knew he possessed—was the cause of his death. Mr. Watson had lived at Ryde for many years, and occupied several positions of usefulness which will not be easily filled by another. He was the son of the late George Watson, Lieutenant (unattached) her Majesty's 3rd Light Dragoon's (King's Own), and arrived in the colony with his parents nearly forty years ago.
