Mr. Alfred Charles Warton, founder of the Australian Tramway Employees' Association, and general secretary for about 30 years, died suddenly at his home, in White-street, Manly, early yesterday morning. He was 52 years of age.
During the past 25 years Mr. Warton had taken a prominent part in the Labour movement. In the Labour party's interests he contested the Waverley seat against the late Mr. Thomas Jessup, and more recently the Parramatta seat against the late Mr. Albert Bruntnell. He was a Freemason, being a member of Sir Thomas Mort lodge.
Mr. Warton is survived by Mrs. Warton, three sons, Messrs. Clive, Lindsay, and Alan Warton, and one daughter (Mrs. A. Manning).
The remains will be cremated at Rookwood to-morrow morning.
