Edgar Noel (Ted) Walsham (1906–1969)

Well-known Communist and trade union activist Edgar Noel Walsham — known to all his many friends as Ted — died on September 12 after an illness that had kept him confined to his home for some months.

Ted Walsham joined the Communist Party in the late thirties and worked untiringly for its aims, becoming a member of its NSW State Committee.

After becoming employed as a railway worker at Eveleigh workshops in Sydney, he rose to the position of vice-president of the Australian Railways Union, subsequently being honored with a life membership of the union. But his name is known in trade union circles above all for his outstanding work in helping to develop and lead what became a powerful shop committee movement in workshops and depots of the NSW railways.

All who knew him on the job, in the union and the CPA appreciated his ability, patience and his friendly approach to all with whom he worked.

Tribune extends deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
