By the death of Mr. E. W. Van Senden, manager for Dalgety and Co. Limited in South Australia, which took place in January, a very prominent figure has been removed from wool and business circles in Australia. Mr. Van Senden was born in England, and at an early age learnt the wool business at Bradford and in France. Coming to Australia, he joined the wool department of Elder, Smith and Co. Limited, Adelaide, early in the eighties, and from that time onwards he was one of the best known woolbuyers in Australia. Subsequently he took over the business of Messrs. John Grice and Co., but on Dalgety and Co. opening in South Australia the latter company bought out Grice and Co., and appointed Mr. Van Senden its general manager for South Australia, in which capacity he acted for many years and up to the time of his death. Mr. Van Senden took a keen interest in business and public affairs generally, and had been president of the Adelaide Chamber of Commerce, and an active member of the Royal Agricultural Society and the School of Mines. He leaves a widow and family. Two sons are at the front, and one has been awarded the Military Cross.
