By the death of Mr. E. C. Theel, of Elder, Smith and Co. Limited, Adelaide, the pastoralists of South Australia and western New South Wales—particularly the river districts—lost a great friend. Mr. Theel was pastoral inspector for the firm, and his business took him all over his own State and along the rivers, and his genial nature and strong personality caused his visits to be looked forward to with great pleasure. Mr. Theel was a great admirer of the Pastoral Review, and always carried a copy with him in his travels. He was in the prime of life, and a fortnight before his death was apparently in the best of health. He was journeying along the Murray, when a sudden illness overtook him, and he died at the Renmark hospital. He was highly esteemed by his employers and colleagues, and his death will be mourned by a large number of pastoralists and others who knew his sterling qualities.
