Alexander Stewart (1834–1923)

Alexander Stewart, n.d.

Alexander Stewart, n.d.

from Pastoral Review, 16 May 1923

Born at Dollar, Scotland, in 1834, he was the son of the late Alexander Stewart, of Meehio Park and Gloomhill, Scotland, and nephew of the late Dr. John Cameron, R.N. Educated at Dollar Academy, he was intended by his parents for the medical profession, but a love for roving and adventure made him abandon that, and he went to Queensland about 1859, where he spent some time as jackaroo to the late Mr. David Ord. Coming to New South Wales a few years later, he pursued various occupations, eventually purchasing Millera Station about 1870, where he lived until the last few years. He later acquired Billarimba and Strathalpine, in the same district.

The late Mr. Stewart was one of a large and distinguished family. He was a pioneer of the best type, and his life has been a good example of perseverance, industry and integrity. He leaves a family of six daughters. His wife, only son, and youngest daughter predeceased him.
