Mr. J. W. [John Wilson] Stenhouse, one of West Wallsend's prominent citizens, died at his business premises at Belmont. The body was taken to Mr Stenhouse's West Wallsend residence, from where the funeral took place on Monday afternoon. The interment was in the West Wallsend cemetery, Rev. Mallan? officiated. Representatives from various Masonic lodges and members of the M.U.I.O.O.F. attended in large numbers. Mr Stenhouse was in his 58th year, and had been a resident of West Wallsend for 42 years. He took a keen interest in the welfare of the town. He was one of the first councillors elected to the Lake Macquarie Shire Council, in which he served a term as President. Taking a keen interest in mining matters, he was one of the delegates who suffered under the Wade Co-ercion Act, during the Boland Strike. In the early days he was closely connected as a director and Treasurer to the Co-operative Store. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs Stan Williams (Kurri Kurri) and Miss Elsie Stenhouse (West Wallsend).
