Isaac Mitchell (Ike) Smith (1866–1947)

The death occurred recently of a former well known resident of Grenfell in the person of Mr. Isaac Sandford Smith, at the age of 80 years. The late Mr. Smith, at a very early age, was for some time on the staff of this office, and when here in October during the Jubilee Celebrations, came in to look at the old press that he worked in his younger days. In later years he managed "The Grenfell Vedette'' for the late W.A. Holman. Always a staunch Laborite, he was the first A.W.U. organiser to come into this district. Mr. Reg. Smith, well known Western bookmaker, is a son. Other surviving children are Mrs. Carr, Mrs. Chalmers, and Mr. Dave Smith. His brother Ern, and a sister (Mrs. R. McBeath) survive him.
