Edward Henry (Harry) Smith (1878–1927)

The death occurred at a private hospital, in Rathdown street, Carlton, on Saturday evening, of Mr. Edward Henry Augustus Smith, secretary of the Victorian branch of the women's Confectioners' Union. Mr. Smith, who was aged 48 years, was born in the Ballarat district, and had been associated with the Labour movement for many years, having on one occasion contested the Polwarth seat for the Legislative Assembly. He was a brother-in-law of Mr. Weaver, former M.L.A. for Korong. For a period of nine years he had acted as secretary of the Women's Confectioners' Union, and previously filled the position of organiser to the Federated Grocers' Union. He will be buried in the Coburg Cemetery this afternoon.
