Allan Howard Smith (1886–1951)

The death occurred recently of Mr. Allan Howard Smith, formerly of Kyeamba Station, Wagga Wagga, N.S.W., and a prominent member of the Murrumbidgee Pastoral Association. He was 70 years of age.

Mr. Howard Smith was born at Kyeamba Station, which was taken up by his family in 1836, and resided there until, owing to ill-health, he disposed of the property in March of last year.

He took a keen interest in all public affairs, but especially the Murrumbidgee Pastoral Association, of which his father was one of the founders. For many years he was the president of the association and later became its patron. He was also patron of the Wagga Wagga Cricket and Bowling Club, president of the Wagga Trotting Club, and chairman of the Murrumbidgee Milling Co.

Mr. Howard Smith was a very prominent member of the Masonic Lodge, and his memory has been honoured by the formation of a new Lodge in Wagga called the Allan Howard Smith Chapter. He is survived by his wife and stepdaughter, Errella (Mrs. B. Heard).
