I hear that Mr. J. A. [John Alexander] Seeck, one of Australia's foremost wine experts, has passed away. Versatile, and with a modesty that cloaked his great talent. Mr. Seeck studied wine in France, Germany and Spain before he left Russia to come to Australia; and he was a cultured man worth conversing with. When I first met him years ago he was at Reynella winery, and later at Hamilton's. When he retired he went to live with his daughter. Mrs. Sandford Beggs (Helen Seeck, of lawn tennis fame), of Willaura. Victoria. His elder daughter is the wife of Mr. Robert Barr Smith, of Mount William Station, Ballarat, and she and her husband are in England. Yesterday Mr. F. S. Scholefield told me that he often played golf at Marino links with Mr. Seeck.
