Mr. Alfred John (Jack) Ryder (63), caretaker of the Town Hall for the last six years, and one of the city's best known unionists; died in the Hospital last night. Mr. Ryder suffered a heart attack some time ago but recovered sufficiently to go to Adelaide for a holiday. He was to have resumed duties next week, but last Saturday collapsed at his home.

He was taken to the Hospital, and had been reported as in a satisfactory condition. His death occurred early last night.

Born at Gympie (Queensland). Mr. Ryder had been a resident in Broken Hill for more than 46 years. He was a member of the A.M.A., now the W.I.U., the Municipal Employees Union, and was a life member of the Hospital.

Mr. Ryder was at one time president of the Trades Hall Trust, a position he held for 14 years. He was also associated with the A.N.A. Lodge and the R.A.O.B. Grand Lodge and Social Democratic Club.

A widow and family of two sons, Messrs. Alfred and Cliff Ryder, survive. The funeral took place this afternoon, leaving his late residence at the rear of the Town Hall at 4.30 p.m. Fred J. Potter and Son made the funeral arrangements.
