Edward John (Ted) Rowe (1905–1960)

The Tribune deeply regrets to announce the death of E. J. [Edward John] (Ted) Rowe, member of the Communist Party Central Committee and a lifelong fighter for the Australian working people.

Mr. Rowe, who was 54 when he died by a stroke, was 30 years a member of the Party.

He spent the first part of his working life at the Ballarat railway workshops, where he was on the shop committee and took an active part in organising the shop committee movement in the Victorian railways.

Coming to Sydney, Mr. Rowe was elected to the Commonwealth Council of the Amalgamated Engineering Union and in the post war period took a leading part in the big wage struggles in the metal trades, including the Queensland rail strike.

He served with distinction on the CPA Victorian State Committee, the Central Committee, and as chairman of the NSW State Committee.

The Tribune joins in extending to his relatives the sympathy of all who knew this dauntless fighter for the welfare of the Australian working people.

The funeral will move from the chapel at Labor Motor Funerals, Oxford St., (opposite Paddington Town Hall) at 9.30 a.m. Friday, for the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium.
