Mount Morgan has lost another of its grand old citizens in Mr. Dan Rogers, who passed away at the age of 59, thirty of which were spent on the Mount. Born in Cornwall (England) he came to Queensland 45 years ago. In the early days he followed the occupation of a teamster, and for many years before the railway came carted goods and timber for the Mt. Morgan Golding Mining Company. Later he entered the employ of the company as a miner and was considered the best single or double handed driller in their employ. He also worked as a coal miner at the Styx coalfield. He contracted miners' phthisis. He retired from active work some five years ago. For some time he conducted the Exchange Hotel. In his younger days the late Mr. Rogers was a splendid athlete. At wrestling, boxing, putting the weight, and football he could hold his own with the best of them. He leaves a wife and family of ten, of whom Bill Rogers, the well-known footballer, is a son.
By a happy coincidence all the family were home to spend the Christmas, though some of them had been away working in other parts of the State. The funeral, which took place on Saturday, was largely attended.
The deepest sympathy is extended to his wife and family.
