Away back in '80 a callow youth met for the first time the Robertsons, four strong men, destined to take a great part in the making of that wide country known as Riverina, in the State of New South Wales. They were Angus, of Yarrabee; Lachlen, of Barmedman; Duncan, of Goree, much loved by those who knew him best; and James, of Mimosa, great hearted, big, honest, lovable Jim Robertson, straight in mind and body, but now resting from his life's big effort.
Other members of the family included Miss Annie Robertson, of Moy Hall, S.A., who is the last surviving member of the late James Robertson's generation; Peter, of Inglefield; and David and John, of Warbreccan. James was the seventh son of Duncan and Margaret (nee Stuart) Robertson, of Balnluyg, Kingussie, Invernesshire, and was born on the 24th of November, 1846. He is survived by his wife, a daughter of the late Alexander Anderson, of Mooramong, Skipton, Vic., and the family consists of Mrs. Wyatt de Little (Wyamba), Mrs. Robert Menlove, Stuart (Coolart), and Willie and David (Queensland).
James Robertson, alas, was fated to suffer much in his last days on earth, and the way he faced sickness, pain and death can be taken as a lesson in bravery and an inspiration by those who knew him and loved him well, and who will not forget his passing. To his very own we, his friends, extend our deepest sympathy. Good-bye, Jim Robertson, the days were dark at the crossing, but light shines ahead.
